Short CV

Hasan Topacoglu was born in 1986 in Akhisar. In 2010, he graduated from Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Department of Japanese Language Education. Subsequently, he moved to Japan (Kyoto) in 2011, after passing the MEXT Scholarship Exam held by the Japanese Ministry of National Education at the Embassy of Japan. He got accepted to the Media and Cultural Studies program within the Faculty of Education at Kyoto University and started his research activities under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sato Takumi, who is known as one of Japan’s leading researchers in the field of Media and Cultural Studies. He received the Best Thesis of the Year Award from the Faculty of Education with his master thesis on “Japan’s Meiji 100th Anniversary as a Media Event”.Hasan Topacoglu completed his doctoral studies in 2018 at the same department and successfully graduated from Kyoto University with his Ph.D. dissertation on “Media Events (100th Anniversary Events) and Modernization Memory in Postwar Japan”. After his graduation from Kyoto University, he continued his research activities at Suntory Foundation (Osaka) as an International Research Fellow. He has written most of his academic work, including his M.A. and Ph.D. thesis in Japanese, however he has given talks in various conferances and thought in seminar courses for undergraduate students in English as well. The Turkish Republic Centennial (2023) as an upcoming media event, Media Events, Social Memory, Modernization Memory, Media and Cultural Studies, constitute the basic framework of his interests.
